vDesk 2.2 Release

Dear RingCube Customers,

RingCube is pleased to announce the release of vDesk 2.2, a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that simplifies the creation, access and management of Windows desktops. With the release of vDesk 2.2, RingCube improves the user experience for vDesk users and administrators. vDesk 2.2 also expands support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Cisco VPNs. 

What's new in vDesk 2.2

vDesk Client

Single Sign In (SSI) mode - An SSI command line option has been added that allows the vDesk Client to be invoked, authenticate with the users Windows login credentials, and start the default vDesk workspace. 

Quick deployment mode - A “deployexportedimage” command line option has been added to quickly deploy and activate an exported image to its deployed location.

vDesk Workspace

Product Upgrades – Upgrades are now supported (vDesk version 2.1 and later).

Windows Vista - Windows Vista Operating System support has been substantially improved.

Domain user password - Users can now change their domain password from within the vDesk workspace.

vDeskNet - vDeskNet now has improved support for VPNs and joining domains when in NAT mode.

VPN Support - The Cisco AnyConnect VPN is now supported.

Workspace Restart – User can now restart from within the vDesk workspace.

vDesk Administration Server

Improved Admin Server User Interface - The main navigation menu has been moved from the left of the admin server web pages to a horizontal menu at the top of admin server web pages. This provides easier navigation and more display space for admin server objects.

vDesk over the Network Share - The network share required for vDesk over the network is now auto-configured when the admin server is installed.

Secure LDAP connection - The admin server can be configured to use an SSL connection to the corporate LDAP server.

Copy Policies - Policies can now be copied to create new policies.

LDAP Organizational Units (OUs) – The admin server now provide a filtered search for OUs.

vDesk 2.1 Release

Dear RingCube Customers,

RingCube is pleased to announce the release of vDesk 2.1, a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that simplifies the creation, access and management of Windows desktops. With the release of vDesk 2.1, RingCube extends vDesk networking, file server and storage support to improve delivery of vDesk workspaces over the network, enable mobile worker remote access and provide additional network isolation options. vDesk 2.1 also enables administrators to collaborate on building vDesk workspace masters and set policies to control users’ ability to install their workspaces on different types of devices (PC, Drive, VDI/Network).

What's new in vDesk 2.1?

vDesk Workspace

Network Virtualization - A new implementation has been introduced that supports both bridged and NAT modes. Sharing the Host PC network drivers is no longer supported. 

VPN support - Support has been added for the Cisco Legacy and Checkpoint IPsec VPN clients. In addition, VPN clients can now be installed in a Workspace Studio and mastered. VPN clients can also run even if the VPN client is installed on the host PC.

Expanded File Server Support - A new block device driver is included that allows support for additional CIFS based files servers such as SAMBA and Network Appliance file servers. 

Virtual Hard Drive (VHD) – The VHD container format provides better network workspace security, storage management, and dynamically sizeable workspaces.

vDesk Administration Server

vDesk over the Network Studio Workspaces - The vDesk admin server now supports creating studio workspaces using vDesk over the Network enabling multiple administrators to collaborate on building vDesk master workspaces. 

Workspace Installation Location Policies - The vDesk admin server can specify policies that control whether a workspace can be installed on a PC, on a drive, or over a network.

vDesk 2.0 Release

Dear RingCube Customers,

RingCube is pleased to announce the release of vDesk 2.0, a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that simplifies the creation, access and management of Windows desktops. With the release of vDesk 2.0, RingCube advances its virtualization architecture through its new Workspace Virtualization Engine (WVE) expanding the manageability, security, and supportability of its enterprise-class virtual desktop solution. With version 2.0, vDesk also extends its advantage in the areas of application support and ease of management as compared to application virtualization offerings while continuing to maintain a significant cost and performance advantage over client hypervisor-based solutions.

What’s new in vDesk 2.0?

RingCube vDesk 2.0 delivers the industry’s first Workspace Virtualization Engine (WVE) which provides a lightweight and complete virtual desktop that can join an enterprise domain, has an isolated network stack and supports applications such as endpoint security, databases, and PC management software that require drivers and security services. Below is a listing of key components of the Workspace Virtualization Engine (WVE):

  • Virtual Networking, called vDeskNet, allows the virtual workspace to separate and isolate network traffic from the host PC including VPN clients running within the virtual workspace.
  • Virtual User Management allows the virtual workspace to have a unique set of user accounts separate from the host PC. Also, vDesk users within the virtual workspace can add/join an Active Directory domain independent of the user authentication and authorization rights of the host PC.
  • Virtual Security Store provides a separate protected storage area within the virtual workspace where items like certificates are kept isolated from the host PC. 
  • Virtual Windows Services allows greater process and application isolation from the host PC. Virtualized services within the virtual workspace include LSA (local security authority), Microsoft TCP/IP networking, and NTFS volumes. These virtualized services help to increase the number of kernel-mode applications that can be supported within the virtual workspace.   
  • Generic Driver Support provides a virtualized framework for the installation of drivers within the virtual workspace, which includes a virtualized Plug-n-Play service. The generic driver framework increases application support particularly when new drivers are required.

Deeper security and isolation control – vDesk 2.0 delivers full workspace encryption through its integration of 3rd party encryption software which protects the information stored within the virtual workspace.  Also, vDeskNet provides a virtual networking stack so all network traffic within the virtual workspace can be isolated from the host, protecting confidential information from spyware on the host PC. VPN clients and end-point security software can also be installed inside the virtual workspace for additional security protection of the virtual workspace.

Improved management and supportability – vDesk 2.0 improves the manageability of the virtual workspace by allowing users within the vDesk virtual workspace to add or join an Active Directory domain. Further, vDesk 2.0 has the ability to consume and apply Group Policy Objects (GPO) within the virtual workspace itself independent of the host PC. Enterprise customers can leverage existing management tools with vDesk by running them outside or inside the virtual workspace. By co-existing with traditional PC life cycle management tools and processes, vDesk provides a seamless transition path from traditional desktop management to virtual workspace management.

Enhanced usability and platform support – vDesk 2.0 client has a more streamlined interface making it easier for vDesk users to get access to their virtual workspace with less interaction required. Also, vDesk support of Windows Vista has gone from technology preview in the previous release to general availability.

vDesk 1.1 Release

Dear RingCube Customers,

RingCube is pleased to announce the release of vDesk 1.1, a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that delivers anytime, anywhere access to a personalized desktop environment containing applications, data and settings. vDesk version 1.1 delivers new MobileSync technology that enables users to work offline and synchronize their vDesk virtual workspaces between four flexible deployment options:

  • PC – vDesk is stored and runs locally on the user’s PC
  • Drive – vDesk is stored on portable drives such as USB, flash, and smartphones
  • Network  – vDesk is stored on a network file share and runs locally 
  • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) – vDesk is stored in the data center and accessed remotely using VDI

What’s new in vDesk 1.1?

vDesk MobileSync

vDesk MobileSync enables users to synchronize their vDesk Workspace between any of the four vDesk deployment options and work offline. While Offline, users become truly mobile by being able to access their virtual workspace anytime, anywhere. For example, a user can access their vDesk through VDI while in the office and check out their vDesk workspace to a laptop or portable drive for a business trip or to work at home. Mobile professionals have the flexibility to work from an airplane, at home or in a hotel room.

When they come back to the office, they are prompted automatically to check in and synchronize their vDesk Workspace to the network. Once checked in, the user can access their vDesk workspace through VDI and have all the changes that were made offline reflected in their online vDesk workspace.

Using vDesk MobileSync for Desktop Backup and Disaster Recovery

vDesk MobileSync enables rapid backup or “hot standby” for disaster recovery for users who have hardware failures or loose their laptop or portable drive. If a user’s laptop or portable drive is lost or fails, the user can check out their vDesk Workspace from the network to a new laptop or portable drive and be up and running in minutes with the latest applications, data and settings.

vDesk over the network- vDesk over the network is a vDesk deployment option that enables customers to store virtual workspaces using a windows file share and run user workspaces locally on a PC. vDesk over the network can be accessed by users on the local area network (LAN) from any PC.

vDesk over Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) - vDesk over Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is a vDesk deployment option that enables customer using VDI to deploy the less costly non-persistent desktops in combination with vDesk over the network to achieve a personalized desktop user experience including unique applications, files and settings. In addition, vDesk over VDI workspaces can be used offline without downloading a virtual machine with a second operating system.

vDesk Workspace Update - When administrators need to provision new applications, update existing ones or deliver data to the users’ workspace, they simply make the change once in the master workspace, apply the new version of the master to the user or group, and a differential update is automatically pushed to all workspace instances at the next login. Administrators can configure vDesk workspace update to either notify the user and allow them to delay the update or force the user to update before they can login to their workspace.

vDesk Client -  vDesk Client provides a single interface for users to download, create, launch and manage vDesk workspaces. vDesk Client downloads using a signed Java applet plug-in through the vDesk Client Portal.

vDesk Dashboard – The vDesk Dashboard provides administrators with a consolidated view of their vDesk deployment including key implementation metrics such as:

  • System Information – Disk, memory, and licensing usage
  • Alerts – High memory, low disk and low license alerts
  • Views – Logins and activations over time, active instances, storage usage and availability, and vDesk workspace size metrics

Enterprise Management Console
The MojoPac Enterprise Administration Server is a workspace lifecycle management solution that enables administrators to create workspaces, deploy workspaces via a client portal, and apply policies to workspaces. MojoPac Enterprise integrates with Active Directory to authenticate users and automatically apply isolation, security and usage policies to users, groups and workspaces.

Client Portal
The MojoPac Client Portal makes it easy for end users to download and install pre-configured workspace masters and previously downloaded workspace instances they have created or customized. The MojoPac Enterprise administrator determines which users and groups have access to which workspace masters and can implement quotas that limit the number of workspace instances that can be activated by each user and group.

Data Synchronization
End users can now synchronize data files between the host computer and the MojoPac workspace. This functionality replaces the one-way Host-to-MojoPac data copy available in the previous releases.

Cisco VPN Client Support
In this release, customers can install a Cisco VPN client as part of the workspace so that end users get a fully packaged workspace that includes the Cisco VPN client and other business productivity applications. MojoPac™ 1.8.0.0 Update Now Available

We are pleased to announce the release of MojoPac 1.8.0.0. This release includes many highly-anticipated features for both enterprise and individual customers.

Improved performance on flash drives
As many of you are aware, flash drives have lower read/write capabilities than an external hard drive. In this release, we have implemented new algorithms to improve the performance of MojoPac on flash drives. We also have introduced a tool "MojoMeter" that will determine the performance characteristics of the drive you are using and give you general guidance on the performance. This tool will run as part of the installation process. 


Running MojoPac on host with limited mode access
Current version of MojoPac requires Admin privileges on the host computer to execute. In this new release, we are introducing a plug in called "MojoPac Usher". MojoPac Usher can be installed on the host computer and once it is installed MojoPac will execute on that computer even when used with limited access user login. This allows users to lock down their PCs, yet use MojoPac in a flexible way. Please note that you would need one time admin privileges to install MojoPac Usher.


Ability to run MojoPac on the host computer without an external USB drive

So far you needed a USB drive or iPod to garner the power of MojoPac. Not anymore. Now you can install MojoPac on the host computer just by selecting a directory where you want to install MojoPac. You can use MojoPac on the host computer by clicking on the shortcut on the desktop. When you need mobility you can just copy the entire MojoPac directory to an external USB drive and you can now take it with you. This feature allows you to have multiple partitions on your PC, for instance one partition for work and another for home without having to logout of the current user. If you have a shared computer at your home, each member of the household can use their session of MojoPac on the same host computer without corrupting other user's applications or data.

MojoPac™ 1.0.6.0 Update Now Available

Dear MojoPac Users, 

We are very excited to announce the release of MojoPac 1.0.6.0 Update! This update includes the following enhancements and improvements:

Enhancements:

1. MojoPac setup screens have been improved for usability: 
a. Device setup and activation are now accomplished through a wizard.
b. A new user can test drive MojoPac for 7 days without registering. Web support and product update notifications are not available for test drive users.
c. A new user can now register with the MojoPac server during device activation. This registration enables activation of a MojoPac device for Trial or Purchased licenses. Registered users receive web support and product update notifications.

2. MojoPac licensing now allows mobility across VMware and certain non USB 2.0 compliant devices. 

3. MojoPac installers are now code signed (digitally signed) for secure delivery over the Internet as an additional security for the customers. Publisher is "RingCube Technologies, Inc.". 

4. MojoPac product activation is now compatible with Internet proxy software. 

Improvements:

5. MojoPac product has been made more resilient during configuration errors through improved automatic recovery mechanisms. 

6. UNC path support – users should now be able to create, delete, rename and move files on network drives as long as the user has access and appropriate permissions.

MojoPac™ 1.0.5.0 Update Now Available

Dear MojoPac Users, 

We are very excited to announce the release of MojoPac 1.0.5.0 Update! This update includes the following enhancements and fixes:

1. Support for non-standard Windows install location: users will be able to install and run MojoPac on a host PC where MS Windows is installed in a place other than c:windows.
Note: update from a previous version of MojoPac should be done on a host where Windows is installed in a standard c:windows directory.
2. Enable/Disable product key: allows users to disable a MojoPac product key before enabling it on a new or a reformatted USB device. 
3. Support for UNC path: access network resource using hostname or IP address within MojoPac.
4. Enable enhanced driver support: allows PunkBuster to be able to load its driver inside MojoPac. Please see “How to Enable PunkBuster Support” FAQ on the MojoPac Forum for the details.
5. Fixes for Recycle Bin issue. Deleted files and folders can now be located in Recycle Bin.
6. Fixes for Windows Media Player. WMP 10 can be installed in MojoPac while a host is installed with WMP 11.
7. Fixes for Internet Explorer 7 usability problem.
8. Fixes for Domain user related issues including missing entries in “All Programs” menu and creating shortcut issue.
9. Fixes for Outlook password caching bug.

Free Update to MojoPac Vista - No Longer Available

We are currently working on a version of MojoPac that will support Vista. All customers will be notified when the MojoPac Vista update is available. This will be a free update for existing customers.

In addition, we are currently running a MojoPac Vista BETA program to a limited number of customers to test out, prior to releasing the update.

MojoPac™ 1.0.2.5 Update Now Available

Dear MojoPac Users,

We are thrilled to announce the release of MojoPac 1.0.2.5 Update! This update includes the following enhancements and fixes:

1. Support for retail Microsoft Office: Retail copies of Microsoft Office can now be installed within MojoPac. 
2. Support for IE7: You can now use IE within MojoPac with Hosts that have IE7. 
3. TrueCrypt support: MojoPac will now work within TrueCrypt using the "File Container" option in TrueCrypt. 
4. Limited User Mode for authorized environments: We provide enhanced support for environments like Universities, Schools, Libraries, and Enterprises that want to deploy MojoPac to connect to their Limited User Mode PCs. 
5. USB space usage: A new icon has been added to the MojoPac toolbar that will now display the storage space remaining on the device where MojoPac is installed. 
6. Fixes for software conflicts between MojoPac and some anti-virus/web filtering software on the Host PC.
7. Fixes for RS3 errors. 
8. Fixes for occasional unintended Host/MojoPac switching.

MojoPac™ 1.0.1 Update Now Available

Dear MojoPac'ers,

We sent an email earlier this week to keep you posted on our 1.0.1 update. The key benefits of this release are:
1. Increase the number of boots during Trial. This patch will grant you an additional 100 boots of MojoPac so that you can try the product more extensively for free.

2. Expand the types of devices you can use to install MojoPac. MojoPac 1.0 was designed to support installation on all USB 2.0 Compliant devices:USB 2.0 Storage Specification

Through collaboration with Hard Drive companies, we have now expanded the support to USB hard drives with external cases that were not fully compliant with USB 2.0. 

3. Fixing the majority of RS1 errors.

4. Adding more resiliency to the product.

5. Improving error reporting.

1.0.1 is a required update for all MojoPac 1.0s, since they are all in Trial mode. As soon as you purchase MojoPac (our store will open up next week!), you can choose to turn off automatic updates.

*Note* - You will need to reactivate your MojoPac device after the update to 1.0.1. This is expected behavior for this update.

Security Bulletins

MojoPac™ Security Bulletin # MP-0001

Severity: Medium

Abstract:
During a routine third-party security audit of the MojoPac product, a security vulnerability was identified that may allow inadvertent leaks of data to the host PC where MojoPac is running. While we have received no reports of any exploits abusing this vulnerability, we have decided to release this security bulletin to ensure that our users are made aware of the issue.

Affected Versions:
MojoPac 1.0.1.0 and earlier versions. Versions later than 1.0.1.0 are not affected.

Remediation:
The vulnerability is the result of an architectural incompatibility between Microsoft Windows and MojoPac. This incompatibility was addressed in MojoPac 1.0.2.0 and later versions. Users are advised to upgrade to version 1.0.2.0 or later. You can determine your MojoPac version by clicking on the MojoPac icon in your system tray and selecting "About MojoPac".

About MojoPac:
