RingCube Technologies Joins Microsoft System Center Alliance
vDesk Extends Desktop Management to Unmanaged Workers with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
Mountain View, CA, December 14, 2009 - RingCube Technologies, the leading provider of the managed virtual workspace, today announced that it has become a member of the Microsoft System Center Alliance. The RingCube vDesk solution enables enterprises to provide unmanaged workers such as contractors, consultants and outsourced workers with a secure managed virtual workspace that workers can use with their own PCs, while keeping applications, confidential data and network traffic completely isolated. Rather than providing each unmanaged worker with a dedicated PC, vDesk integrates with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 to extend its provisioning, policy enforcement, and disaster recovery capabilities to unmanaged worker PCs using vDesk virtual workspaces.
“Workspace virtualization solutions offer isolation, without the added data center costs of servers, storage and other infrastructure resources that some other approaches require” said Ronni Colville, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner, Inc. “These tools also will more likely align with existing desktop management processes, but standards will be needed to enable mixing and matching of technologies.”
Unmanaged workers such as contractors, consultants, outsourced or temporary employees often require a computing environment on a project basis to perform a specific set of tasks. These types of workers typically use their own PCs that are considered unmanaged or untrusted desktop computers from a corporate IT perspective. When their unmanaged workers are finished with their projects or reassigned, their workspaces can be revoked remotely, protecting corporate data from loss. By combining RingCube vDesk with Microsoft System Center, IT organizations can deploy a high-performance virtual desktop with an agent that:
- Runs at 99% of the native host PC performance including full 3D graphics
- Can be stored on a portable USB drive, unmanaged PC or network file share
- Encrypts the virtual workspace using a Microsoft virtual hard drive (VHD) format
- Isolates applications, data and network traffic from the unmanaged PC
- Joins to the corporate domain as a separate computer and retains group policies (GPO)
- Provides virtual network communication that supports VPN remote access
