RingCube to Showcase vDesk for VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure at VMworld 2008
Virtual Desktop offering delivers Personalization, Offline Mobility, and Efficient Storage Utilization
Las Vegas (VMworld Booth #1053), September 15, 2008 - RingCube Technologies, an innovative provider of managed, virtual workspaces, will showcase a unique solution in desktop virtualization at VMworld 2008 with its vDesk solution for VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). The integration of VMware VDI’s non-persistent pools with RingCube's vDesk enables enterprises to dramatically reduce costs, including operating system licensing, as well as provide greater mobility online and offline to virtual desktop users.
“Imagine a day when you come into the office and use your hosted desktop from your own personal laptop, then needing to quickly catch a flight, you check out your desktop, which is streamed down to your PC,” wrote Natalie Lambert, Senior Analyst, Forrester Research in the July 2008 report Inquiry Insights: Client Virtualization, Q3 2008. “Now you have an offline version of your desktop to use while on the road for the next three weeks. It’s when desktops can be truly used independent of device and network connection that the technology will hit mass adoption.”
RingCube vDesk separates the user’s desktop environment, including applications, data, settings and system resources, from the operating system and encapsulates it into a secure container. Users can run their virtual desktop at the office or on unmanaged PCs – at home, at a client site or in a hotel business center. When users start their vDesk workspace, it transforms any PC into their own familiar and personalized workspace to access their files, applications, settings and entire desktop, as if they were on their own PC. vDesk has the flexibility to deliver virtual desktops to users wherever they are through a variety of deployment options.
“We are pleased to be working with VMware to show the benefits of combining our technologies,” said Pete Foley, CEO, RingCube Technologies. “For enterprises utilizing or evaluating a serverbased virtual desktop deployment, our technology can provide additional functionality while delivering as much as 70 percent storage cost savings.”
The integration of vDesk with VMware VDI enables enterprises to deploy inexpensive nonpersistent desktops over the network to achieve a personalized desktop user experience including unique applications, files and settings. Additionally, users are able to work offline, with all changes being synchronized upon reconnection.
“The integrated demonstration of VMware VDI and the RingCube vDesk solution will show customers the power and value of using these solutions together," said Jeff Jennings, Vice President of Desktop Products and Solutions at VMware. "Innovative partners like RingCube Technologies continue to enhance our already powerful VMware VDI platform by helping customers deliver a familiar desktop environment virtually while reducing IT costs and ensuring consistent access to individual workspaces regardless of location."
